DW Mays was a Lieutenant in Confederate Army -served under Bedford Forrest, was in guerrilla band in Missouri.  His brother, Leonides was a surgeon for the Confederates.

Horace Burns' father was responsible for acquiring the books as Sherman rampaged through the South. Presumably the US flag of 36 stars that Bill Stites, Jr has came from him.

Richard - was the black sheep because he didn't graduate from college. Mary Frances later said he was the "black sheeP" because he had an illegitimate daughter. This was Aunt June. Evelyn raised her from the age of 13 and sent her to school. June's mother was a poor girl, don't know the name. Richard and the girl were not allowed to marry in Mississippi. No shotgun marriage there. June was with her mom until Evelyn took her at the age of 13. Aunt June bacame a commercial artist for newspapers.  She lived to be an old woman - married a newspaper man. Susanne heard he was an alcoholic.
